About us
Who We Are
Welcome to FANTANKA
FANTANKA is a pioneering, women-led civil society organization based in The Gambia, dedicated to advocating for gender equality, sexual and reproductive health (SRH) rights, and the rights of marginalized groups. We are passionate about creating a society where every individual—regardless of gender, background, or ability—can thrive and enjoy their fundamental rights.
Our mission is rooted in the belief that equality is not just a goal; it is a necessity for sustainable development and social justice. We focus on empowering those often left behind, including out-of-school youth and individuals with disabilities. By providing essential support and resources, we aim to break down the barriers that hinder their participation in society.
At FANTANKA, we understand the profound impact of human rights violations. Our dedicated team offers psychosocial support to victims, guiding them on their journey to healing and rebuilding their lives. We believe that every survivor deserves compassion, respect, and the opportunity to reclaim their dignity. Our programs are designed to nurture resilience, encourage self-advocacy, and facilitate access to the services needed for recovery.
We recognize that the path to true equality is fraught with challenges. Social, religious, and cultural norms often perpetuate discrimination and marginalization. That’s why we actively challenge these barriers through community engagement, education, and advocacy. We work tirelessly to raise awareness, promote dialogue, and foster understanding, inspiring individuals and communities to take a stand against injustice.
Our vision is a Gambia where every person’s rights are upheld, where diversity is celebrated, and where all individuals are empowered to lead and effect change. We believe in the strength of collaboration and are committed to building partnerships with like-minded organizations, stakeholders, and community members to amplify our impact.
Join us in our journey toward an inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to live freely, fully, and authentically. Together, we can create a future where every voice is heard, every right is respected, and every person can contribute to the vibrant tapestry of our nation.
