Vision

Fantanka envisage a Gambia where every woman knows and understands their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and where Sexual and Gender-Based Violence is unacceptable and perpetrators punished for their actions.

Mission

We contribute to closing the gap in creating culturally sensitive SRH awareness, understanding and advocacy for SRH rights and engaging the public on gender matters; challenge religious and cultural barriers that promote gender inequality and SGBV as well as support victims in their healing process and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.

Our Core Values

Empowerment

We empower individuals, especially women and girls, by providing them with knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about their health and rights.

Equity and Justice

We are committed to promoting gender equity and justice, ensuring everyone, including juveniles, is treated fairly and harmful practices are eradicated.

Cultural Sensitivity

We prioritize culturally sensitive approaches, respecting and incorporating the diverse traditions of the communities we serve.

Integrity

We uphold transparency, accountability, and ethical practices in all our actions.

Collaboration

We believe in the power of collaboration and actively partner with other organizations, community leaders, and stakeholders to maximize our impact.

History and Background

Fantanka is a women-led, Gambia-based civil society organization advocating for gender equality, SRH rights, and the rights of marginalized groups, including out-of-school youth and individuals with disabilities. We provide psychosocial support to victims of human rights violations, helping them heal and rebuild. By challenging social, religious, and cultural barriers, we work toward creating an inclusive society where everyone’s rights are upheld.

Disability Inclusion

We advocate for the rights of people with disabilities, promoting accessibility and equality in education, healthcare, and employment. Goal: To ensure that people with disabilities can participate fully in society.

Youth Empowerment and Skill Development

We equip out-of-school youth and those in formal education with life skills, leadership, and job readiness training, encouraging civic engagement and positive social contributions. Goal: To foster leadership and economic independence among Gambia’s youth.

Challenging Harmful Social Norms
